Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founding partner of Major Tom.
What challenge were you trying to address with Blank Slate Content?
We merged two agencies together and rebranded so we hired Blank Slate Content to help us create and maintain a consistent tone across our website, blogs, and press releases. Because of our company’s name, it was inherently important for us to differentiate our brand and tell a clear, concise story.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We mostly worked with him on copywriting but he also helped us strategically. Before beginning the project, he met with us to talk about our target market and audience profiles. He kept that information in mind and tailored our messaging to those different groups.
Daniel (Founder, Blank Slate Content) helped us with the transition from the previous messaging to the new one. In addition to curating an overall communication guide, he developed at least 20 blog posts, five press releases, and several social media bios.
What is the team composition?
Daniel was our main point of contact, serving as the editor and creative director for the project, but he had people working with him under his direction.
How did you come to work with Blank Slate Content?
We already knew him and knew that he worked as a writer and editor. We later found out that he was doing his own consulting and we were introduced through that. We evaluated a number of different writers before deciding to work with Daniel.
How much have you invested with them?
We have invested between $40,000-$70,000 in David's services, so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with him in January 2018 and we’re still working with him on an as-needed basis.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
With his help, we doubled or tripled our efficiency and were able to publish our content quickly. We also had a more consistent content calendar which included email marketing campaigns, social media content, and press release activity.
Overall, his work made us better and more professional. We are now able to move faster and our volume of communication is much higher.
How did Blank Slate Content perform from a project management standpoint?
Blank Slate Content’s project management skills were excellent and top-class so we never missed a deadline. They were reliable and consistent.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Daniel was proactive in terms of letting us know when we were behind or reaching out when we hadn’t communicated in a while. His outreach kept projects moving along in a timely fashion. We had a trusting relationship where we could communicate openly, allowing us to move projects along faster.
Even when it was stressful and we had a lot of content to work through, he had a structured plan so that was one less thing to worry about. I trusted that every element of our campaign would be handled accordingly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It’s hard to say. If anything, some of his content could’ve been less wordy and more pointed. On the other hand, he did help us make some of our other content more pointed.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
To get the most out of the engagement, revisit all of your communication channels and try linking them together so that the tone is consistent across all of them. Blog posts are written differently than website copy or social media posts so work on having an overall content strategy that isn’t task-based or centered around one channel. That’s what we did and I’m happy with that choice.
The work done by Blank Slate Content more than doubled communication efficiency. Their first-class project management skills, reliability, and consistency allowed them to submit work in a timely manner. The team is proactive and provides strong support, especially when the workload is heavy.
