GetClean - #1 Housekeeping service in Belarus

GetClean is an Uber-like service but in the context of housekeeping. We developed a software system that allows the company to manage orders, company’s resources, collect statistics and reduce paperwork. Thanks to the web system, GetClean optimized various business processes.

 

Web development

We created a full-scale web application for managing customer

orders,  company's resources, collecting statistics, and reducing paperwork.

The website Getclean.by was developed using React.JS. This is our primary technology for creating complex web applications. The admin panel was built using PHP with a Yii2 framework.

 

Results and prospects

The money and man-hours invested in GetClean gave (and continue giving now) a great return. The service gets even more popular in Minsk, and its creators have plans to expand their business to other cities as well.

Besides that, we have plans to increase the project’s automation level in the future. Thanks to the flexibility of React.JS “groundwork”, it’s also possible to create a mobile app based on the same platform. 

Sooma tDCS - an IoT-enabled system for a high-tech cure for depression

We developed a comprehensive IoT-enabled system that includes 2 web portals - one for Sooma managers, the other - for the doctors outside the company, and an innovative mobile app.

The management portal is an easy-to-use admin section for the creation of patient and doctor databases. It collects data about user activity and exports them for detailed analysis.

Neurosonic - an IoT solution for device management

Neurosonic enables users to connect to the company’s products – chairs, mattresses, or sofas –  via Bluetooth and manage different user regimes with a mobile app.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We're a small startup company in Helsinki, Finland. We have two co-founders and three full-time employees; I'm one of those full-time employees. I'm a project manager in R&D. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with BLAKIT?

Our product is a medical device used mostly in hospitals, that can also be used very effectively in the patient's home environment and self-administered by the patients.

We decided to develop an app that will support the patient — to facilitate communication and remote monitoring of the patient alongside the medical device.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They developed an app and a web portal. The mobile app is for the patient, while the doctor or clinician connects to their patients through the web portal, which can have multiple patients in it.

We had an idea of what we wanted. We had well-defined user requirements and specifications on our end, but some things changed during the development process. BLAKIT did all development work on the app, the backend, and the web portal for doctors and the design as well. I believe they had contractors for the design as they're not a design company. They used Node and React for the frontend. The app is only for Android at the moment for budget reasons, but we do want to make an iOS version.

We are also continuing to develop the product. We have made hardware updates to the actual device to integrate wireless connectivity, but that's still in development. 

What is the team dynamic?

There are five people from BLAKIT working with us. We worked in two phases and are now in the second phase. 

How did you come to work with BLAKIT?

We work in a co-working space for small start-ups in the health, well-being, and medical device space. One of our co-founders knew the founder of another company here who had used BLAKIT.

Alexander, the CEO, came to Helsinki for Slush [start-up event] and we talked with him there. We ended up having a conversation for an hour and a half. We decided to go with them after considering a few other offers. We worked through the requirements, specifications, and user requirements together to develop them into more thorough and detailed specification.

How much have you invested with them?

We have spent around €25,000 [Approximately $30,000 USD] with BLAKIT.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2016. The engagement is still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We have a very small user base because this is not the kind of app that we want people to find through organic search. It doesn't hurt if people find it, but the idea of the app is more to enhance our current product and help us sell our medical device; it's a feature enhancer, essentially.

The feedback we've received has been good. It has allowed some clinics to permit the patients to administer their treatment at home. They had never done that before, but when we demonstrated the app for them, they decided to try it. The patients have been responding well and using the app. The doctors have been monitoring that treatment remotely through the web portal. It's the desired outcome for us.

How did BLAKIT perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed very well. We mainly communicated through Slack. We’ve had Skype calls and some email communication, mainly for admin, invoices, and other things, but mostly Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

There was one week in March when we first launched the beta version to demonstrate it to the public. I was on vacation in Cyprus, while the rest of the company was in Barcelona at a big conference. They were going to demonstrate it, but then something happened to the backend and things broke and stopped working.

I was communicating via Slack to our team and to BLAKIT at the same time. They were immediately on it and got it solved within minutes. That kind of responsiveness makes them stand out; they were very quick to react and they had superb communication.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There's always things they can improve on. One thing would be the breaks, which happened a couple of times this summer. I'm not a developer myself, so I don't know how common it is that these things just happen and then you need to fix it. If things didn’t break, it would be even better. I'm not sure if there's something that they could've done on the development side to mitigate those breaks, but they've always been very quick to fix those issues.

I work for a foreign attorney-at-law company based in Belarus. We provide legal assistance in many fields to different businesses, from small to large. I am the head of PR.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with BLAKIT?

We needed a good website to promote our activities. We organize legal events, including international ones such as the Minsk Legal Forum, which connects legal companies from all around the Baltic Sea region, as well as some Western European countries. 

For previous events, we had used a site created through a free platform, which was not very efficient. We decided to hire a company that could create a great platform to promote our activity and help to increase the number of participants.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

BLAKIT developed our website on the WordPress platform according to our requirements, and in both English and Russian. The site isn’t very complex but it was exactly what we needed. 

What is the team dynamic? 

Primarily, we worked with the main web developer, Vital Ozierski, who helped us create both the design and the functional side of the website. That included visual elements such as the look of the program, as well as the ability to download it, and so on. We were free to choose between different options, make changes and propose alternatives. They were willing to accept our ideas and help us achieve our goals.

How did you come to work with BLAKIT?

I was looking for a company in Belarus that could build a website for a modest price. We didn’t have a lot of money in the beginning, and there was also an issue of timing—the site needed to be built in a month. There weren’t many companies that could provide quality work for the price. We found BLAKIT online and checked their LinkedIn profile.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with BLAKIT in February 2017, and the project finished in June. The website took one month to complete. It could have been done faster, but we didn’t provide all the necessary information in time. There were also some small changes which extended the work. We have finished our agreement, but we can still call them if we need help with content.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

People have liked the website. There is a large pool of organizers involved with the event, not only from Belarus, but also Russia and Ukraine. They are all from big legal firms, so it was unusual to reach the common conclusion of liking the site.

Metrics from Google Analytics have shown us that there are many people who visited our site and they stayed on it for an average of one and a half minutes or more.

How did BLAKIT perform from a project management standpoint?

The process was very good. After we set a one-week deadline for a task, they delivered within that time. Deadlines were met, and they responded to questions and messages quickly, for an IT company. We communicated mainly by Skype. We also tried email, but that wasn’t very efficient.

We worked with a team from BLAKIT, but had a single point of contact who helped us deal with problems, and that was the web developer. We also had a designer and other resources, but we didn’t spread communication between different people.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I don’t think that I could compare them since this has been our only collaboration of the sort. The best thing about BLAKIT was their speed and readiness to communicate. Even before the work was finished, they were willing to provide advice and answers free of charge.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It wouldn’t necessarily be an improvement, but BLAKIT could assign some project management resources.
