The site has performed well for over five years with minimal updates or alterations. Big Couch Media Group's Drupal expertise and straightforward management approach helped them deliver on promises and provide a functional, usable product.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Please provide a description of your company.

I work for a major sporting event and entertainment complex.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I’m the webmaster.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Big Couch Media Group?

We wanted to go open source, and we needed someone to build out the website on an open source Drupal platform.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Big Couch was in charge of everything. They built the whole site from scratch, front end and back-end. There was minimal input from me or anyone else in my organization.

What was your process for selecting Big Couch Media Group with which to work?

I found them through some online forums that specialize in open source technology.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

I can't provide you with a dollar amount. But, if you compare open source to what it would have cost us to go with a proprietary platform, it was at least five times less.

Can you tell me the timeline of the project, such as when it completed or whether it’s ongoing?

The project began about five years ago, and was completed in a timely manner. Our work with Big Couch is ongoing as they continue to provide support.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you talk about the results of the project and how you feel they performed?

We are very happy with the results. The site has been up for almost five years now, and we haven't made any major changes. I think that speaks to the quality of their work.

Are there any statistics or metrics you can share that would track the improvement of the project?

Not at this time.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Big Couch does what they say they're going to do. So many companies in this space don't, and it is very frustrating.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

No. I love them to death. I would recommend them to anyone.

What advice would you give a future client of theirs?

Work with Big Couch. They won't disappoint.

Affiliate marketing and SEO rankings have increased ten- and five-fold respectively. A transparent collaborative process, honest improvement evaluations, and personal insights from Big Couch Media Group's principal partners build excellent products and tangible results.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Please provide a description of your company.

Capital Lighting is an online and brick-and-mortar retailer of lighting fixtures, lamps, and home decor. We have eight brick-and-mortar locations, but the majority of our sales come from our website.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I'm the chief marketing officer, and a member of our leadership team on strategy and growth opportunities.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Big Couch Media Group?

They were engaged to take over our digital marketing management several years ago. However, they morphed into an overall strategic partner for us that extended beyond marketing into all aspects of our digital presence.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Primarily, they've provided management of pay-per-click, SEO [search engine optimization], SEM [search engine marketing], affiliate marketing, and comparison-shopping engine management.

What was your process for selecting Big Couch Media Group with which to work?

They were referred to us by our controller.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

At the height, the annual spend was probably more than $100,000. Now, it’s under that, but I’m not sure of the number.

Can you talk about the timeline of the project, such as when it started, and whether it’s ongoing?

We started working with them in 2009, and the relationship is ongoing. However, with their guidance,  we've built out our internal departments and brought a lot of what they were doing in house. But, Big Couch is still very much involved strategically.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you talk about the results and how you feel they performed in terms of the quality of the work they provided?

We were very happy with the work they provided for us. They were always very open about the results their projects achieved, and we built on the successes and culled the failures.

Are there any statistics or metrics you can share that would track the improvement of the project?

They increased our affiliate marketing by probably 1,000 percent and our SEO by 500 percent.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

As their two principals [John Studdard and Georgianne Brown, co-founders and managing partners of Big Couch Media Group] are their main points of contact, it gives you a level of service and attention that is unique. They used the term "we" right from the start, and really identified with our pain points. They didn’t say "your" issues; they were "our" issues.

It’s a level of thinking that is hard to get without having the owners involved. The two principals run their own companies and understand the seats that we’re all in. They have a level of empathy that pushes them to deliver a high-quality product at the lowest possible price.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

I can't think of anything.

What advice would you give to a future client of theirs?

They view themselves as "insultants," not consultants, so be open and honest about all pain points. If you're ready to hear the honest truth, they’re a good company to engage.
