A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the head of integration for AdviNow.
What challenge were you trying to address with Better Quality Assurance?
Better Quality Assurance is our QA partner.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We create products that automate patient visits to clinics. The product involves hardware and software components—including a web application for doctors, a kiosk, and electronic health record (EHR) integration—that are all cloud-hosted. Better Quality Assurance verifies the software pieces, which is predominantly the web app. They access the platform or site and then write bug reports in Jira.
What is the team composition?
We work with two people who have access to our systems and products.
What is the status of this engagement?
The collaboration started two and a half years ago and is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I have a positive impression of Better Quality Assurance. They’re proactive and catch bugs in a third of our associated tasks. We had considered going with a cheaper provider, but after considering a few alternatives, we’ve stuck with Better Quality Assurance.
How did Better Quality Assurance perform from a project management standpoint?
I communicate directly with Better Quality Assurance’s team. Their owner is up-to-date on what we do and always available. We keep in touch over text chat, voice chat, and Jira.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Better Quality Assurance is highly competent. They’re up-to-date on the latest technologies and fit into our organization nicely. We haven’t run into any communication issues—they correspond fluently in verbal and written English, and they are highly available.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of much. Better Quality Assurance has had both good and not-as-good people in the past, but the not-so-good ones have been weeded out. Better Quality Assurance runs a tight organization.
Any advice for potential customers?
With any offshore QA company, you have to communicate more than you would for a local company. That hasn’t been an issue 4 out of 5 times with Better Quality Assurance, however. our time zone differences, we work with their team in the mornings until noon. One benefit we see is that if we submit work for them to do at the end of the day, they’ll work over our night and we’ll find it done by the next morning.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CTO at AdviNOW Medical. Our company seeks to automate the doctor visit, especially in urgent care and primary care settings. Our solution allows doctors to collect patient information online. Rather than filling out long questionnaires about their medical history, patients’ information is stored automatically. Our system can be used for in-person and telehealth visits.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Better Quality Assurance?
We had received initial funding and were starting to grow as a business. We needed an independent group to assess the features and functionality of our software to make sure it was high-quality before we began rolling out to our beta customers.

What was the scope of their involvement?
They provided quality assurance services. We leveraged them to do integration and automation testing. This included evaluating our UI and API.
What is the team composition?
Brad (CEO) is my main point of contact, but we’ve used as many as eight resources at a time for our work.
How did you come to work with Better Quality Assurance?
We were referred to them by another independent contractor we’d been working with.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested around $300,000 per year with them.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together around December 2017 or January 2018.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They’re one of the best QA vendors I’ve worked with. Whenever they find a bug, they’re extremely thorough in their documentation. They include video documentation to showcase what the problem is, and they explain the root cause of the issue, as well as how to fix it. Their work has been very helpful.
How did Better Quality Assurance perform from a project management standpoint?
Despite the time difference, communication was seamless. They were able to work with me during my workday in Arizona and with our development team based in Russia. We use an internal chat product and JIRA to manage the project. The communication is organized and clear.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their organization has been able to keep me out of the weeds. They bring suggestions and quality concerns that are beneficial to the advancement of our business.
Are there any areas they could improve?
This isn’t on the Better Quality Assurance team, but it would be nice to have more development services from them. For example, helping us implement automated integration testing.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I would highly recommend working with them.

The team was responsible for conducting regression tests on the whole platform and documenting and reporting the findings to dev teams. They also have performed tests on the mobile application.

We were giving support to a company in united states, through the time the project got bigger and we decided to move to Europe, there are many factors that EU and USA are different, as the language and some wifi settings connection.

Based on their abilities we did some interviews and they were able to do the work in the best way, Better QA was the company closest to our values and our need.

Their main responsibility was to check the products that we were working with on different areas, doing manual testing as regression test, smoke test, spot test, among others.

We were not able to do the testing that we required due our location, they did it an adapted easily for our needed.

The workflow was very well, all deliverables were always on time. For the platforms that we were working it they had all access like Slack, Confluence, JIRA, GitHub, Bitrise among others and the were so professional using them.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
I would say it was the communication. We had eight hours of time zone difference, but they always responded even outside working hours.

We didn't have any issue working with them.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
Spoke with the owner, and then ran a small test project to determine suitability. They provided immediate value and understood our problems well.

Building automated Cypress tests for our web application. It was split into one area at a time, and they delivered a suite of tests which were integrated into our CI system.

We worked with 1 automated tester, and they founder/CEO who helped problem solve certain issues and guide the development process.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We have caught a number of regressions introduced by new code thanks to the automated test suite running on every commit. We also discovered a number of issues during the development process of the tests that have been fixed. Overall, we are able to deploy new features faster and with more faith in the stability of our system.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We had a simple workflow, using tickets that described the features and ad-hoc problem solving sessions to dive deeper on the details as needed.

They had high level QA services. They were also very responsive alongside their thoughtful communication.

We hired BQA for QA testing of our new releases.
What were your goals for this project?
Our goal was to make the product more reliable and have better UX/UI. In addition we seek to add value-add features.
How did you select this vendor?
They were recommended to me by a friend/software developer.
Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.
We assigned them a new feature to debug, and they post a variety of bug issues that they found. They cross-browser tested depending on our request. They also posted videos of the bugs to help us see exactly how the problem was created, which was very helpful in figuring out the solution. They also provided UX/UI feedback.
What was the team composition?
I interacted only with Brad Tudor, though I believe he has a team behind him.
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
We improved our ability to release software without bugs and improved user's experience using the product. We were not finally able to support multiple platforms (Chrome, iOS, and Firefox). Brad discovered bugs on older features we weren't even aware of.
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
Project management was very effective - Brad is very organized and posts all bugs in Github with milestones and notes. We asked him to change his process a bit to allow our team to prioritize the bugs and he accommodated this request.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Brad's passion for finding bugs and getting them fixed is very impressive. He turns the work around very quickly and is a source of energy in terms of bug fixes.
Are there any areas for improvement?
We've been very satisfied with his work - a more thorough discussion earlier about how to display/resolve bugs would've helped us develop our current process sooner, but this may be more of a reflection of our lack of time to set up meetings!
The team at Better Quality Assurance is thorough and detailed in their work. They provide excellent documentation on the bugs they encounter and suggest helpful resolutions.
