LESS_ Image

LESS_

The app has become a tool for change towards less stuff and less waste. It allows users to keep upgrading their style while simultaneously supporting a sustainable lifestyle and reducing textile waste.

The buying and selling process taking place in LESS_ is pretty straightforward. It all begins with a seller taking quality pictures of clothes or accessories to whom they wish to give a new life as well as choosing the

type of offer they’re interested in: auction or buy now. Once a buyer expresses interest in purchasing a given item, the two get in touch to discuss payment and shipping method.

HyperCRC Image

HyperCRC

Hyper CRC is an innovative spatial design platform that fuses virtual reality with tangible motion-tracked models, thus enabling companies and their clients to physically experience design visions.

The issue with VR apps is that the items you see in front of your eyes are not touchable, intractable since they are not physically there. Hyper is trying to create a bridge between these two worlds by mapping physical objects

in VR and make them interactable.

One of the MVPs of Hyper includes two actual airplane seats, so when you put on the VR goggles, you find yourself inside an airplane. The virtual seats appear exactly at the same place where the physical seats are so you can sit and adjust their details to your likings: including material or color.

Teamdeck Image

Teamdeck

Teamdeck is our first major in-house product. The tool combines resource scheduling, time tracking and leave management to help companies manage their teams effectively. Typically, teamdeck is used by creative agencies, software houses, finance & product teams that manage multiple projects at the same time. Being a software house ourselves, we understand the challenges that these companies are facing and had a solid idea

how to solve them.

A week before the legalization of cannabis in Canada, Tweed, Uber and MADD Canada launched a nationwide “Don’t drive high” campaign, urging the public to never drive high. We were tasked with creating a website where users could find a list of 101 things to do instead of driving high, including a game where they can pop some bubbles, and of course educational content. It also had to offer a limited amount of Uber promo codes

which users could redeem upon visiting the site.

Welcome to Marwen Image

Welcome to Marwen

The Mill, a VFX and Creative Content studio, approached us to deliver an AR mobile app promoting Welcome to Marwen, a new Robert Zemeckis' film.

Users are introduced to the app and its technology by Zemeckis before the scene plays. Inside the scene, users can meet the characters and explore the environment. They can even snap a photograph from their favorite angle and then share the image on their social platforms as a

Marwen digital postcard. Additional activities include character bios, photo galleries and behind- the-scenes content.

Tresilio Image

Tresilio

Psyomics is a biotechnology company founded by Prof Sabine Bahn from The University of Cambridge and Dan Cowell. They wanted to create a tool to explore how people could monitor their psychological well being and develop a better awareness and understanding of their own mental health. Psyomics approached us to help them develop the first stage of the app for a trial phase. How does it work? Tresilio is a mobile web app meant

for different types of users: people who consider themselves healthy, those who may have early signs of mental health challenges, but are unaware and help-seeking individuals. Users can use the app to monitor their mental health, develop a better understanding of potential causes of any challenges faced or get personalized advice on the best options to access further help and support.

Adquesto Image

Adquesto

Adquesto is essentially a gamified paywall. From the reader’s perspective, it involves taking the following steps.

Upon entering the website, the user can see a limited part of the article, e.g. the first paragraph. Then, they run into the adquest which comprises of an advert and a comprehension question with three answers. If the user answers correctly, the rest of the article is unblocked. If, on the other hand, the

answer is wrong, the user can retake the adquest after 5 seconds.

Candy Group Image

Candy Group

Bonsaininja asked us to collaborate on a project which would emphasize the uniqueness of their client, Candy Group. As a result, we undertook to deliver software for operating a facial and emotion recognition screen which was showcased at IFA Berlin 2018.

When approaching the brand’s stand, the visitors could interact with the screen in order to determine their personality type and the matching Candy Group’s product.

Once they stood in front of the screen, their face was scanned for age, gender, and 6 basic emotions: happiness, sadness, surprise, anger, fear, and disgust. Facial expressions allowed users to make choices: positive ones served to accept and negative ones to decline.

SHOPTHAT Image

SHOPTHAT

Beauty influencers engage millions of Instagram and YouTube users every day, promoting products viewers want to use.
Conversational commerce platforms connecting retailers with content creators may be an innovative solution for selling products showcased by influencers.
SHOPTHAT approached us with an idea to build a prototype of such a platform. With SHOPTHAT, influencers would be able to choose products provided by

cosmetics retailers and tag them in their Instagram posts or YouTube videos. For end-users shopping would be quick and easy, as a chatbot would guide them through the buying process.

The app garnered extensive praise for the accuracy of its design implementation. Apptension’s consistent communication, responsiveness, and proven technical skill facilitated a dynamic collaboration.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder and partner of a small digital studio that designs and builds websites and native apps. We typically work with third-party developers on larger projects.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Apptension?

We carried out the planning, UX, and design for a travel app for a client that allows users to reserve and pay for travel activities. We needed development resource to help us build the iOS app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They collaborated with us to build the iOS version of the app; while we created wireframes and provided the designs, they helped us to define the specifics of the functionality and developed the app to our specifications.

The primary functions facilitate vendor-user interactions. Vendors can advertise their activities with photos and promotional videos. Users then browse through the offered activities, organize them with filters, and request bookings. The app also features text/email notifications, integrated digital payment options, and user itineraries.

Currently, they’re providing ongoing support for the app, and we plan to launch other releases by the end of the year. They’ve recently released an update that allowed us to add other markets to our vendor base.

What is the team composition?

We primarily worked with a tech lead, developer, project manager, and a QA tester.

How did you come to work with Apptension?

We received numerous referrals from our colleagues, so we contacted them and detailed our project objectives. Compared to other companies, they responded quickly and diligently to give us estimates. Ultimately, we chose them based on their high-quality portfolio and previous clients.

How much have you invested with them?

We prefer to keep the project cost confidential.

What is the status of this engagement?

The iOS build lasted from March–September 2017. Now, they continue to provide app maintenance and have plans for a potential Android version, though this will depend on our end-client.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The end-client praised the app and wanted to continue working with us, which reflects the caliber of Apptension’s work. They accurately replicated our designs in the final build and included all of the required functions.

How did Apptension perform from a project management standpoint?

Throughout the process, we learned to collaborate with them and came to consider them partners. We met weekly with appear.in and communicated primarily through Slack for smaller inquiries. They always replied promptly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re great communicators and easy to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

As we went along, we conveyed minor concerns to them, and they addressed everything we mentioned.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I don’t know what we could have done without our constant communication. They excel at keeping their clients informed, so customers should not be afraid to reach out to them.

Building a high-quality platform with clean code, they displayed good technical design skills and established a solid product. They were a flexible team that communicated well and always went above and beyond.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of a conversational commerce platform focused on the beauty and cosmetic space.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Apptension?

We needed to quickly put out an MVP of what we were launching into the market.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Along with our head of engineering, they built two products and got them to the point where we could test them with consumers.

One is for content creators or influencers, helping them to understand how much revenue they make from their content. The platform allows influencers to generate revenue when people purchase products from their posts. The content creator aspect allows them to indicate which products were in the piece of content. The second was a retailer product that allows retailers to upload products to the platform, and in turn, those products are provided to the influencer.

They used Django on the backend and React for the frontend, a web version and not a native version.

What is the team composition?

We worked with 12–15 people who covered the frontend, backend, QA, and project management.

How did you come to work with Apptension?

We had used them before and felt they knew what they were doing.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent around $170,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from May to December 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were able to bring technical design thinking to the project. They helped to push the product into something that could be extendable in the future. The code and the work were good quality and were really what we were looking for.

How did Apptension perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was tight and I always knew what was happening. They ran a scrum and agile process with a two-week scrum duration. They always did 10%–15% more than their story point estimates. Their English and the communication was good, generally. We worked through the time difference by conducting calls in the morning and that worked out pretty well.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a great group. We were happy to work with them and really happy with the results. They developed their own product, so they understand what you go through and there is a lot of positives that go into that.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, they’re a solid team and overall, the engagement was positive. Any problems were just general technology issues that anyone would have when doing a project like this.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

We went over there for a week to spend some time with them, which we found beneficial. It would be worthwhile for anyone doing a significant project to spend time with the team in-person and become familiar with them. That means when doing remote work, it will work well.
