I am the director of technology at a service provider for e-commerce businesses. We act as a concierge service for package delivery.
What challenge were you trying to address with AIMDek Technologies?
We wanted to expand our services to include a grocery delivery service, so we engaged AIMDek Technologies to build an iOS application for us.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We brought AIMDek Technologies on to build an iOS application with a Shopify integration, along with a Shopify website, that our customers could use to purchase groceries. Once users placed their orders, they would soon be available at one of our pickup centers because we did not yet offer home delivery.
One of their developers sat in on our daily scrums to provide us with updates. We gave them a code repository and a hosting environment, so all they had to do was submit their code so that we could review it. Much of their work was completed using Swift.
What is the team composition?
A product owner led the engagement from a technical standpoint.
How did you come to work with AIMDek Technologies?
I had worked with a member of their team in the past, so I was already very familiar with their work. We went through a normal proposal process with AIMDek Technologies and a few other companies, but I already had so much more faith in them because of our previous experience working together. With other companies we considered, we wanted to make sure they had a presence in North America, but we made an exception for AIMDek Technologies.

Our engagement spanned January–March 2017.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We were thrilled with the final product. Considering how much we paid, what we received was a great value.
How did AIMDek Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicated efficiently through emails and GoToMeeting, which we used for daily stand-ups. Their team was always willing to put in extra time to address our needs. Whether it was a holiday or a last-minute request, they made sure they brought somebody in to work on what we asked.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They are forward-thinking and client-focused. If I ever came to them with a problem, they identified the root of it and took preventative measures to make sure it didn’t crop up again. I can’t say that all vendors will be as proactive about taking preventative steps.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They clearly have a talented development team, but they could improve by having a stronger business analyst presence to take care of some administrative and documentation duties. They completed those tasks, but they could have used heightened attention to detail on certain things.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am currently the CTO of an e-commerce site in Argentina, mostly for wines. We are also opening the site for other products as well.
What challenge were you trying to address with AIMDek?
We were looking for an experienced developer in a very specific Java framework called Liferay. It was a difficult search, given that it was very specific, and there weren’t many developers experienced with it.
We were looking to develop new features and fix bugs on our platform. There was no specific challenge, but we needed a full-time developer. We used to have a different e-commerce site built using another language and decided to migrate to a new Java framework.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started working with AIMDek a long time ago, and I don’t remember exactly what we needed to work on initially. Mostly, we wanted to find someone with real experience with this framework, so that he could implement features based on our analysis.
We initially had a full-time developer from AIMDek’s side working 8 hours per day for us, and we did hire additional resources over time. There was one frontend and one backend developer at one point, but, most of the time, we worked with a single person. We currently have a single resource.
They haven’t provided any training for our staff in a formal way, but they’re always open to sharing their knowledge with our own developers.
How did you come to work with AIMDek?
I found them on a freelancing portal, possibly Freelancer.com.
How much have you invested with AIMDek?
We are currently spending around $2,000 per month on their services. The workflow has always been steady.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with AIMDek in November 2014, and the collaboration is ongoing.
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
We have 40,000 monthly page views, across 14,000 sessions on the site. We can’t specifically attribute any sales to them, but, in terms of uptime, AIMDek has helped a lot by maintaining our servers. They don’t have any specific tasks, but, once we need them, they will be there to help.
How did AIMDek perform from a project management standpoint?
Their performance is good. The team is responsible and they know what they’re doing. We’re using Agile methodology, specifically Scrum, and usually have a daily call which can last anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the case. If we need to have additional contact through the day, we will use Skype.
Responsiveness is one of the reasons we’ve stuck with AIMDek for such a long period of time. They have always met our expectations, they’re responsible, and they know what they’re doing.
What did you find most impressive about AIMDek?
Our project, as I’ve explained, required people with deep knowledge of the framework. Their technical expertise is one of the things which helped us a lot, and the collaboration with AIMDek has been very positive for us.
Are there any areas AIMDek could improve?
We have been satisfied in our way of working, but it would be good for us to have meetings with AIMDek’s management more frequently. This is not something we’ve asked for, and, if we do, we will definitely have it. We simply keep in contact with the developer, and the approach has been working well, but it would also be helpful to have more meetings with the managers.
What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with AIMDek?
I would simply say that they’re experts at what they do. AIMDek is a serious company, and we are very satisfied with the work. When I started using Abhed Dekavadiya, their director, and his team, my aim was to only use them for a few weeks or months, have a few things done, and move on, but they’ve proved that they have the expertise, and are a very responsive company. We have kept this relationship for almost 3 years.
We aren’t partners in any way but they are providing us a good service, and we’re satisfied with it. The idea is to keep using them for as long as we need them.
