ADV improved the app by making it speedier and easier to find products, and users enjoy the new UI design. The team offers strong UI expertise and creates impressive interface designs. The results of the project surpassed expectations.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We’re a local division of a large e-commerce company selling clothes, shoes, and household items. I’m the head of web shop development, responsible for all technical issues. I handle the maintenance and development of the desktop and mobile versions of our web shop. I also provide product development for our web shops.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

Around a year ago, we created a new version of one of our mobile web shops. We understood that we should engage an external team as we didn’t have enough internal expertise.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

ADV was tasked with creating a new design for all the web pages of the mobile version. Then, they developed the app using AngularJS. After that, they provided QA and handled the project going live on our public servers.

It’s a classic web shop that provides online sales of fashion goods. It has a main page listing or catalog, product pages, carts, and a checkout with the ability to pay online using a card. The shop is integrated with our internal IT system through an API. It’s a mobile-friendly platform. Our internal team developed the API. We provided to ADV a description of how our new web shop should integrate, give information, and send information to our internal systems.

We’re using the old and the new versions of our responsive app in parallel for A/B testing. We split our audience into halves with the first half using the old version and the second half using the new version. We measured conversion rates and observed that they were initially lower for the new version than for the new one. This was okay, given that the new version was completely new for users who were used to the old one. We plan to make a full-fledged launch within a month.

What is the team composition?

They assigned two designers, an art director, a project manager, and an analyst for the initial phase. The development team included three developers, a team lead, and 1–2 QA resources. We’ve worked with up to 10 people from ADV.

How did you come to work with ADV?

We invited 5–10 of the best companies in the Russian market to participate in our competition, and ADV was one of them. The decision factors were price, project duration, and portfolio. We looked at ADV’s portfolio and found relevant work experience in building e-commerce mobile apps. ADV presented the best offer.

How much have you invested with them?

We had a fixed price engagement with them. The price was comparable to other companies.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with ADV around October 2017 and finished in mid-April 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The new version is better. It’s faster and it makes it easy to find specific products. In terms of look and feel, the new version looks like a native app. It’s closer to modern customers’ experience. They prefer native apps, so we tried to make our web responsive version look close to a native one. People are happy with it.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve performed well. Their project management is not excellent, but they’re quite good. We use all communication tools, including lots of Skype meetings, and we prefer in-person meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are great in terms of UI design. Their art director is an expert and he is especially professional. The results were even better than our expectations, and the development ran normally.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They want to deliver projects as well as possible and to think about business issues together with us. This was good for the project, but it was more than enough from time to time.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

If a client needs to create good interface designs—both web and mobile—they shouldn’t hesitate to hire ADV. They will be happy with the results.

The site has been vastly improved. ADV communicated efficiently, via multiple tools, but they could also benefit from bolstering their creative efforts. Their wide knowledge base and technical experience allows them to provide a full suite of web services.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a Senior Digital Specialist at Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition. We specialize in medical nutrition for oncology and neurology patients, as well as special formulas for kids.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

We wanted to make our old website more appealing and more engaging, and make our online store more user-friendly.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

It was a redesign project, but the whole idea was very different from the old website. The technical description and specification were developed by ADV, and we didn’t provide them with any wireframes. They re-purposed Bitrix CMS as a CRM, which allowed them to handle profile and content storage, and e-commerce.

What is the team composition?

We worked with nine people throughout the project including a project manager, a business development partner, an SEO resource, and one person that worked on email. We currently have someone that is working on a commercial proposal for a search engine.

How did you come to work with ADV?

I’d worked with them at a previous company, so I invited them to participate in the tender. When we spoke about creating the CRM system, website, and online shop, we were impressed by their technical profile.

How much have you invested in them?

We spent 1 million RUB ($16,222 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from December 2017–May 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve seen good improvement from the previous project.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management was their strongest point. We met in person once throughout the project, and we communicated via emails, phone calls, and Skype.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a very good technical team. They’re not only competent with building websites or SEO, but with a wide range of web building and technical competencies. This makes them stand out.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could have done a better job in terms of working on the usability and creativity of their features. They don’t necessarily advertise their creative side, but they would benefit from improving it.

Soon after the implementation of the new product, the company became one of the country's most popular insurance servicers. ADV distinguished themselves with their responsiveness, capable management, and focus on building a wider business strategy.

BACKGROUND

I am the Head of E-Commerce at one of the leading insurers in Russia.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

We had to deploy, from scratch, a system for the online sales and service of our insurance products.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The project included a sales and service system for auto, health, life and travel insurance. ADV made a turnkey solution, starting with analytics, including design, development, testing, implementation, and support of the project.

What is the team dynamic?

It was a 10 person team.

How did you come to work with ADV?

We held a tender and the proposal from ADV was acceptable for the price, and the most elaborate.

How much have you invested with them?

The project cost significantly exceeds $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project began in the summer of 2015 and new releases of the system continue to this day.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Based on the results of the project, we have become one of the Top 3 online insurers of Russia in terms of sales volume.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

ADV has a very strong project manager, so we have not experienced a problem with project management. We communicate mostly via email and Skype, and also met one or two times during the week.

What did you find most impressive about them?

ADV works as a business partner, rather than just a contractor. They focus on the objectives of the project and offer modifications to the terms of reference and work plan if they believe that this will lead to better implementation of the objectives.

During unpredictable situations, support from ADV is crucial to maintaining normal business operations. The agency navigates challenging legal and technical questions with ease. Their fluid communication, reliable deliveries, and willingness to swiftly implement feedback set them apart.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I work for the SOGAZ insurance company, the largest in Russia. I’m the head of the division in charge of all internet functions of the company, including the website, online insurance shop, and some mobile developments.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

Every insurance company in Russia is required to sell online products, so we needed to build an automotive insurance platform for the Russian market.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We told ADV our project requirements, and they provided approaches for reaching them. They worked with our IT specialists on backend requests, adapted our website, and created a shop for online products.

They continue to support the platform on a 24/7 basis and make necessary changes.

What is the team dynamic?

There are around 12 people working on our projects right now.

How did you come to work with ADV?

Every year, we create a tender for companies to become our provider. We send tasks and requested solutions to each candidate. ADV won in 2016 and in 2017, becoming one of our 3 supporters.

How much have you invested with them?

We pay bimonthly, and the cost varies from 100,000 Russian rubles to several million. Annually, we pay between 12 and 15 million rubles. [$200,000 to $260,000.]

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with ADV in the summer of 2016. We have extensive plans for developing the business, so ADV will be our provider until at least the summer of 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Very often, our business is in direct connection with development, and we need to make sudden changes. ADV is always willing to take extra effort and comply with such requests so that we don’t have legal problems. Several times, ADV worked overnight just to make sure that everything was fine. If necessary, ADV will provide more skillful resources and meet our requirements.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

We mostly communicate via email in order to ensure that conversations are recorded properly. We also use phones, when needed. I have contacts for ADV’s engineers to the top management. We sometimes use WhatsApp, as well as Skype, but it’s mostly email and phone.

In 2017, we asked for some changes after identifying improvement areas, and ADV agreed to them. In 2018, we’ll change our initial work and hopefully gain more users. If everything runs as it has in the last 2 years, we’ll assign the support of our site to ADV again. I see no reason to stop the collaboration. It’s not always perfect, but we’ve been satisfied for the most part.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They meet our requirements for fast work, and they were willing to make a deal, even when it wasn’t very convenient for them. ADV is willing to talk whenever anything strange or urgent occurs. The market in Russia can be hectic, but ADV has helped us several times. We’ve changed several providers in the past, and out of the 7 or 8 we’ve had, ADV is one of the most reliable ones.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

We are a French company in the DIY retail area. I'm a project manager working on intranet systems for the company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

We've done a number of projects with them. The first one involved the design and development of our internal portal for employees, and the second one was creating an internal social network from scratch.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They created a number of features for our intranet system, such as a calculation system for our company's employees along with benefits connected to our key performance indicators. These are taken from different systems which are not connected to the portal. After a number of calculations inside the portal, the information is delivered to employees, so that everyone can see their bonuses in near-real-time.

What is the team dynamic?

We have a five-to-six-person team, depending on the project, and we only communicate with the project manager.

How did you come to work with ADV?

A number of years ago, we did some research in Russia for companies with good SharePoint development experience. ADV had the best reputation in the country at the time, so we chose them.

How much have you invested with them?

The total cost has been around $200,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with ADV four years ago, around July 2013.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We received what we wanted, with the portal we designed and developed delivered on time and within the planned budget. I'm generally satisfied working with ADV, but the feedback depends on the period. At the time of completing the redesign, our company was a bit old-fashioned, with many systems from the ‘80s. The new, modern system came as a surprise to the staff. Many people were not happy initially, but we conducted research a year ago and found that around 75% of employees are generally satisfied with our solution.

The network is being used by 25,000 employees, so it’s quite big.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

At the beginning of our collaboration, the level of service was great, but, unfortunately, it has decreased a bit since then. It wasn’t dramatic, but I am less satisfied now than two years ago. We’ve had four project managers during the collaboration, and the results depended on the personality of each one. Three of them were good, and one was not.

We communicate over email, phone, and instant messengers like WhatsApp and Skype. A couple of years ago, we started the practice of having ADV’s project manager work from our office once a week. A new manager was assigned to our project a week ago and is currently starting to understand the process. I hope that we will be able to continue the practice in the future since it’s very good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are good in terms of design, at least for the Russian market. ADV also has good SharePoint experience and knowledge.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Testing the work is an area of improvement.

Feedback summary:

Progress has been hindered at times due to a lack in software testing and project management, but overall, ADV has remained agile and versatile during the relationship. They have been able to fix any bugs, and the website has been met with praise.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I am the online pet-care platform director of a global food and drink manufacturing company. The pet food division is one among several manufacturing units, and structurally speaking, I work in the strategic insights and innovations department.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with ADV?

We didn’t have any in-house web development expertise, and our target was to build a responsive website and mobile application encompassing different products for pet owners.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

The system will help pet owners and clinics find facilities and make appointments. There will also be an online concierge chat that will allow users to talk to pet specialists. ADV is continuing to develop the website as well as native iOS and Android applications, and we plan to add more services in 2018. It’s a complicated task in terms of development.

We went to ADV with a high-level business brief and some timelines, but we didn’t have any in-house technical team members at that time, so we couldn’t write technical requirements.

ADV has completed a small release, and the website is running, but it’s currently only a content site. The major launch of the platform that allows searching for veterinary clinics will occur at the end of September. We’re not sure if we’ll be able to launch on time, but we are hopeful. We plan on launching the mobile application in late October 2017.

What is the team dynamic?

We communicate with the team leaders and project managers, and a team made up of around 12 people. We don’t communicate with developers.

We’ve communicated via email and have met at each other’s offices. We also use Trello and JIRA, and some of our team members use Skype as well as phone calls. Our teams are highly integrated.

How did you come to work with ADV?

We set up a tender looking for a company that could deal with our development task, and ADV was the winner.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started this particular tender in December 2016, and ADV was announced as the winner in January 2017. The project began in February 2017, and the relationship is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The website and chat functionality have been launched. We had bugs and technical difficulties in the first 2 weeks of launching, but they’ve since been fixed. We had a very short timeline, but the testing on ADV’s side could have been better. They’ve promised to be more accurate for the next two releases.

The UI is very good. The most difficult challenge was the concierge chat service because there were some mistakes which lead to features not working on certain browsers, but they were fixed. It was a soft launch, so this didn’t harm us.

How did ADV perform from a project management standpoint?

We asked ADV if they could guarantee strong project management when we were choosing a vendor. One of the deciding factors was whether the director of the company would be personally involved with the project. Project management was one of our fears. We’ve dealt with the director during a very intensive development phase and he handles status updates and makes pushes inside ADV if there are any problems. Overall, I can mark project management as satisfactory.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They are quite agile and can work with us through fast-changing business requirements as new information comes in. They’ve been adaptive to changing business needs, and the cost/value offer is quite reasonable. We’ve received good value for what we paid.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could strengthen their team in terms of project management. ADV is moving in this direction, and they’ve hired new members to solve this problem. We have launched only 1 out of 5 releases, so I’m not sure what will come next, but ADV could improve product testing and accuracy prior to going live.
