Recommendations:
I would recommend SpiderOak to any organization that needs their data to be stored securely. The ability to use unlimited devices is also a great selling point. The only reason I would not recommend SpiderOak is in the situation that the organization's data were not sensitive. If their information did not need to be secure, then using a free service would suffice.
Experience:
My organization has had a data breach in the past two years. We were not only concerned with storing information securely but also storing it effectively. SpiderOak was our solution because they not only protect our employee files and customer data, they also have no access to the information. We use Encryptr and enjoy the zero-knowledge backup. Our leadership team shares files from their office computer to the directors on our smartphones or tablets using the app. Initially, the desktop version of SpiderOak did not perform well; there were some glitches. However, some of the problems were user error and the other issues were resolved within a few days by SpiderOak. The mobile platform is wonderful. We have benefited the most with the peace of mind that we have knowing our information is secure yet accessible for our leadership team.
Pros:
I love the file syncing and sharing capabilities. Our owner/operator appreciates the security and encryption. SpiderOak is a great tool because our team can work from several different devices and store, sync, share and archive their work easily and securely.
Cons:
I found SpiderOak fairly easy to use because I have a moderate level of technical knowledge. However, for those that were not experienced with cloud operations, they found it difficult to understand and learn. If SpiderOak were more user-friendly, it would be perfect.
