Chosen for their reasonable pricing and positive reviews, InMotion substituted an unreliable hosting provider. They offer a robust service, prompt chat support, and flexible payment scheduling. Incorporating more backups and a faster way to reboot the server are the only suggested improvements.

Background

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the owner of a web design and hosting company.

What was the business challenge your company was facing that initiated the need for this hosting platform?

We needed a dedicated server solution that was more reliable than HostGator. Their service became horrible, including multiple day-long outages, after being acquired by the Endurance International Group (EIG).

Solution

Was your company considering other platforms? Why this platform?

We were looking at other platforms, however, InMotion had a favorable combination of affordable prices and good customer reviews. Not being owned by EIG was also a plus.

What type of client is an ideal candidate? Who should possibly avoid these platforms?

Ideal candidates would be hosting resellers. I can’t think of any reasons why anyone should avoid InMotion. My experience has been very good.

What cost factors should clients keep in mind when considering this tool?

They prefer annual payments but are flexible and willing to do monthly payments as well.

On an annual or monthly basis, how much does your company spend to utilize the platform?

We spend approximately $950 per month

How many people at your company interact with In In Motion?

Two.

Results

Were there any software features/tools that you were really impressed by?

The RAID (redundant array of independent disks) drives were a good addition.

Looking back, are there any areas of the software that you feel could be added or improved upon?

It would be great if they could add a dedicated backup to another device or even another location.

Have you had to interact with the platform’s support team or reference their support resources? How were they?

I’ve contacted their support multiple times. They respond the fastest via chat, though the quality of their support varies depending on how mysterious the issue is. For the most part, their service is excellent, but they do need a faster way to initiate a hard reboot of the server since their support team isn’t in the same facility.

Recommendations

InMotion is an ideal hosting provider for people with enough tech knowledge to take advantage of all the tools they have to offer. Their uptime is outstanding and their support technicians are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Background

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the systems administrator for Evil Brain Trust. We host several author sites and publishing imprints.

What was the business challenge your company was facing that initiated the need for this hosting platform?

We had 78 websites across three different providers. Two of them were hacked at the root level and the third had issues with uptime.

Solution

Was your company considering other platforms? Why this platform?

We were shopping around for a high-uptime, well-regarded virtual server solution that could provide pseudo backend access. InMotion had excellent technicians that didn’t mind talking in a technical language instead of reading a script from a screen.

What type of client is an ideal candidate? Who should possibly avoid these platforms?

Any client would be a good fit for this company. They have the best technical assistance team in the industry, and this is from a guy who has 36 years in the IT field.

What cost factors should clients keep in mind when considering this tool?

A virtual private server (VPS) or co-located server should be used by someone with a technical background in order to get the most use out of the provided tools. A standard website hosting solution would fit everyone else.

On an annual or monthly basis, how much does your company spend to utilize the platform?

We spend $660 per year.

How many people at your company interact with In In Motion?

Two, but it’s usually just me.

Results

Can you share any success, metrics, or overall results of your implementation of this platform?

Downtime is minimal, and I usually know when they’re doing maintenance. I’ve recently had our VPS upgrade the operating system and some of the OpenSSL files. They kept the old one up for a week so I could transfer files without any issues.

Were there any software features/tools that you were really impressed by?

I do wish they threw in Softaculous to go with Fantastico for built-in package installation, but the thing that has helped me the most is their root-level web host manager control panel.

Looking back, are there any areas of the software that you feel could be added or improved upon?

It would be nice if they included SSLBot in their server image for VPS deployment.

Have you had to interact with the platform’s support team or reference their support resources? How were they?

I interact with the support team all the time, either because we blew something up or have an unusual issue. They provide top-notch support; even their first tier techs can fix most issues in a few minutes.
