The client is very satisfied with the work delivered by Appy Pie. They make publishing an application simple and easy for beginners. There are no complaints to report. Appy Pie is recommended to others.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your business and your role.

I don’t have my own business. I wanted to do something different. I have computer and IT skills, so I decided to make three apps.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for the work with Appy Pie?

I didn’t need a lot of help to develop the app. I wanted to find a simple and easy platform to help me publish my app myself. They didn’t provide a lot of work for me.

SOLUTION

Can you describe their scope of work?

When you buy an app form on their website, you can select the format that you want to use for your app, and you take it from there. They just gave me some advice and helped me publish the apps.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie for the project?

I checked out five or six different options online. I’m new to building apps so I decided to select them because it was easy and cost effective. I didn’t have any preferences going into the selection process. I didn’t have any knowledge or experience with these types of firms, so I decided to go with them and got lucky.

When was the last app completed with Appy Pie?

I think it was April of 2014.

Can you provide a sense of the size of the initiative with a general cost range?

It was under $10,000.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Are you satisfied with Appy Pie’s performance?

It’s a basic platform for a beginner to use their platform and develop their apps. They delivered what they promised, and it really was simple. I produced a couple of good apps with no issues.

What is unique or special about Appy Pie that makes them stand out compared to some of the other companies?

I can’t answer that question. I didn’t try any other companies. I just picked one. If it didn’t work, then I was going to change to other companies. So, I just went with them. I think it’s a basic platform that helps beginners to develop their apps. It was a minor decision for me, so I didn’t spend too much time in the selection process.

Looking back on the projects, is there anything that you think Appy Pie could improve upon or something you might do differently?

No, everything is fine. Sometimes researching and looking through apps, they have the option that you can call and talk to the developers. They can give you guidance, but Appy Pie doesn’t always offer that. That would be more helpful.

We ask you to rate your experience with Appy Pie for a few factors from one to five. Five is the best score. How about for quality of work?

Five.

How about for schedule as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

I’ll go with four.

For cost as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Five.

For the overall score?

I’ll go with four.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague out of five?

I’ll go with five.

The client is extremely satisfied with the work delivered by Appy Pie. They are very responsive and offer a great development platform. The only minor complaint is that they should add a better text messaging function into the app platform. Appy Pie is highly recommended to others.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

I have a small 24-hour central alarm system company. I live in Mexico, very close to Arizona. Most of my customers come from Arizona and have a beach house in Mexico.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the owner.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

I developed some software with a database so my customers could get information about the status of their alarm systems while they were gone. There would be circumstances when somebody, like their friends or the cleaning people, got in. I made a website where they could access the information.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

My business wasn’t as successful as before because I just had a website to monitor the alarm system. Consumers were all switching to mobile devices to surf the Internet. I looked into how to build an application. I went to numerous websites until I found Appy Pie and found the solution to my problem. Thanks to Appy Pie and their technical support, I have another way to earn income. That’s how I got into website applications. I sell the mobile app service as an extra option.

I used to work in the IT [information technology] department of a hotel, and I have a few projects to build applications for hotels and businesses locally. I will be working with Appy Pie for those applications as well.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I did a lot of online research trying to find the simplest tool to develop my own application. I wanted to save money and take care of the bulk of the work because of my IT background. They also fit well into my budget range.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

Appy Pie invoices me on a monthly basis. I spend about $40 a month. Next month, I'll be able to pay for my application on a yearly basis. I'll also have two more businesses that I will have on a yearly basis. I will develop 12 to 15 applications with them, in the range of $300 a year total.

I was able to start a business relationship with Appy Pie for just $40. I used their platform and did most of the development myself. I had a few technical questions, and they were great to help me.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

The applications work and my business is successful. I don’t have formal metrics.

How is Appy Pie's overall performance?

I am very satisfied. Every time I need technical assistance, they reply by email and solve the problem. I didn't need to ask for help because they have an FAQ page, and everything was there. When I need support, they have someone online all the time for customers to ask questions. The technical support team responds to everything in a very nice way. They don't care if you don’t know much about computers and applications. They give you a precise answer. I’m very happy with Appy Pie.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

I tried working with several companies to build applications. Most of them try to take you to the point that they want you to build a mobile website, not an application. They have a good platform, but by the time you want to publish it on Google Play and the App Store, they tell me I don’t have to do that. They wanted me to send a link to my customers, and they can download the application on their phone. I wanted to publish the app.

Appy Pie helped me publish it on the various application stores. I don’t have a license for Windows or BlackBerry, but I will get one and they’ll help me obtain that. That is the main difference between Appy Pie and other companies. They help you build your application to the last level, which is publishing it. The other companies don’t seem to want to help you with that. That is the main difference.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

I couldn’t figure out how to make the application send a text message alert. For my alarm business, you can arm or disarm the alarm systems by sending a text message. There are some important features that require a text message, and I didn’t see that. That would be a great help to my business if they could add it. Other than that small feature, their platform is great.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Five.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Five.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Five.

For the overall score?

Five. I'm very happy with Appy Pie.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

Five. I would definitely recommend them.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

We have a custom window treatment and blinds website.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I'm the CEO.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

Website design, app development, and SEO [search engine optimization] work.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Appy Pie designed the website. They also created an app that we're halfway finished. They also do SEO work. We’ve used them for quite a while. We are capturing leads through the site.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I’ve outsourced companies outside the U.S. for a while, because it's much more cost-effective. The problem is that many of them are so unreliable in terms of availability. It's a big plus that Appy Pie works on U.S. time. Some companies only have a couple of people, and it's impossible to get anything done. Appy Pie has a big team that works U.S. hours, and everything gets done efficiently. It's a well-known company.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

For SEO, we're paying them about $2,000 a month. The website costs me between $3,000 to $4,000 a month. For the app, it was about $2,000 a month, and it took about five or six months.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

It's a fairly competitive market. We targeted 100 keywords, and we've gone to the first page for about 10 to 15 of them. We’ve gotten decent rankings on the other keywords as well, which is also pretty good.

I’m very satisfied with the work. If you know what you want and you show them examples of what you want, they’re perfect. They do exactly what you want.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Besides being cost efficient and working on U.S. time, everything gets done pretty quickly. They’re flexible when you need them to be. That’s everything we need.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

You need to show them exactly what you want in terms of the specs. If you don't, it might not come out exactly the way you intend it and you have to edit their work. I’ve learned that with other companies as well.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Four and a half.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Four.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Four.

For the overall score?

Five.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization.

We are a religious organization affiliated with the worldwide Episcopal Church.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I’m an outside consultant hired by the organization.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

We have a youth event that happens every few years. We wanted an app developed for use just during the event. It needed to have the schedule, the hashtag aggregator, all of our social media feeds, and some links to the blog that we maintain during the event.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

We used the Appy Pie platform to develop the app. It was literally a lot of feeds and a feed aggregator for us on a mobile platform. I developed the app on my own. Their platform was easy to use. I had a lot of questions for them, and they provided support.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I did some extensive online research. Ultimately, I found an article on Mashable that listed the top 10 mobile app development sites and they were number two or three. I tried quite a few of them, but Appy Pie was the easiest to use that could do what I needed it to do.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

They billed me under $300. It was extraordinarily cost effective. The work is completed, and the event was in July. The app was launched in April or May of 2014. Now the event is done, so I'll deactivate the app.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Are you satisfied with the work delivered by Appy Pie?

The app was fantastic. It didn’t go down at all, and it did everything it needed to do. It was easy to use and immediately updatable. If I found a typo, I could go in and change it, and it was immediately updated. There was no lag. It was fantastic.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

The only analytic I watched was the number of downloads there were: About 1,150 downloads. There were only 1,200 people at the event, so it was successful.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

I had previously built an app on Jenwi, and Appy Pie was far more responsive in terms of support. They were immediately responsive when I needed help with something, or when I had a question.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

They need to improve their integration with Google Maps. That would have been helpful.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Four.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Five.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Off-the-charts five.

For the overall score?

Four.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

Five.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your organization and your role and responsibilities.

I am a pastor. I had an idea for an application as a side project. I don’t want to go into the details of the app to protect my idea.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

I had an idea for an app, and I didn’t really understand what the technology requirements were for the app that I was trying to create. When I ran across Appy Pie's system of creating an app, I discovered that it wouldn’t be as difficult as I originally thought if I had the right tools. It turns out that Appy Pie had the correct tools to use for what I was trying to accomplish.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

I used the platform that Appy Pie set up. I had numerous questions in the process of trying to use it. Each time I had a question or didn’t understand how to get where I was trying to go, it just took a short email to Appy Pie. They were always available to help me and address my questions as quickly as possible, and they always brought in the right technical people. If the person I spoke to didn’t have the answer, he always brought in the correct technical people to assist him in order to help me.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

There were a couple of other platforms that were like Appy Pie, but the other company I tried had very poor customer service. Everything was done via animation, and I didn’t have a chance to speak directly to a person. Many times, they didn’t respond quickly. So, I was left in limbo for days and sometimes weeks.

When I ran across Appy Pie, it was the complete opposite experience.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they’ve done for you?

I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do with respect to the major part of my project. All I needed from Appy Pie was to direct me to where the tools were to get it accomplished. They spent a considerable amount of time trying to help me in terms of trying to identify what I needed as well as who needed to address it.

We had a lot of communication going back and forth between us, whether it was customer service or another technician or a person whose job it was to deal with a particular issue.

I don’t know the number of hours, but I would say there was a significant amount of time put into trying to assist me to get to where I wanted to go. It was an investment less than $10,000.

When was the project completed?

The project took about 30 to 45 days. This is an ongoing situation because you discover all kinds of things that need to be fixed or changed. There was an additional amount of time after I launched it that I had to perfect it. That took several weeks or more to see how it worked and to test it. They provided me with a test file, so I could actually test it on one cellphone or another, so I could see how the app worked. I thought that was great.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

I haven’t received as many downloads of the app as I would like. I have several hundred downloads, but I would like a lot more. I think some of that is a result of promotion, which is not something they’re involved in. I do that myself.

I had a great deal of success. The app is very functional, and the people who have it are very appreciative of it. It turned out very well.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

One of the greatest assets they have is their patience and their willingness to take time to help the customer. The customer service aspect of their company is outstanding. That stands out to me more than anything else.

With the other companies, their platforms are a little fancier, but the customer service was awful.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

In some cases, additional flexibility would be helpful. For instance, I’d like to have a feature where a person listening to the MP3 files to be able to download the MP3 file. That’s not currently part of the platform, but that would be an additional selling point for the people who download the app. They appear to be upgrading, so they listen to their customers. That’s good.

I would like additional flexibility, such as being able to add or change an image. If there were a feature that allows you to do that, that would be great to get a fresh look. Right now, they have to reproduce the app. If there was a way to make that smoother or more flexible, or if I can do it myself, that would be great. I don’t know if that’s possible.

Also, once they submit the app to Google Play or iTunes, it's hard to change anything from that end of it. One of the downsides for me is that a technical change came up from Google Play, and they had to rebuild the app. I lost all of my statistics associated with the first building of that app when Google Play changed it. I had hundreds of downloads, so when they had to rebuild it, I had to start again. It didn’t automatically import the statistics that I had when it first started. I lost something in that whole equation. It appears that when you go on Google Play and look at the downloads, it doesn’t show anything close to the actual downloads. I would like to see that changed.

We ask you to rate Appy Pie on a scale of one to five, with five being the top score. What would you give them out of five for the quality of their work?

Five.

For schedule, as in being on time and meeting deadlines?

Five.

For cost, as in value for your money and sticking with the original estimates?

Five. Definitely.

For the overall score?

Five.

How likely are you to recommend Appy Pie to a colleague, out of five?

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

The project is an app where you can set up your hairstyle according to the day's weather. The free version offers just about a whole day setup for women to have a hairstyle done, so let's say if it's raining in the morning, they can have a certain hairstyle and then in the evening, if something changes, they'll have a different hairstyle for the evening.

The paid version is where you can personalize up to five days, [and] you can customize your hair type and set it up. However, that portion of the app is still in progress and not yet completed. There will be videos of how to make the hairstyles with step-by-step guides of what you can do.

What is your role and responsibilities?

I am the co-founder as well as the IT [information technology] side of the company.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

To use their app platform and get help from them. We started with the platform, but because this is more of a custom app, we got them to do the full app for us instead of doing it ourselves. They did everything from content to backend to middleware.

The first stage is the free app that is being developed. The second part is the paid version, which is in progress. The third stage will be the website, which will also come into place. It is an e-commerce website. The fourth stage will be getting more stuff done from them, but I'm not sure what. It's all in planning right now.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Right now it is mostly used on Android and iPhone iOS, but it will be available on all platforms soon enough. We are trying to see if we can get it incorporated into a Windows 8 format so it will also be on Windows phone. It can work on almost any device. Initially, the first year of the paid version will be only in the United States, and then it will expand to international borders. We are going to expand for sure, it's just that we want to get our first half of the market from the U.S.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I went on Google and saw they were on the top of the list on a ranking site. I just spoke to the founder and he was very nice to talk to. He explained the whole process. It was pretty easy to understand what he was talking about, although technology is something I know very well. Still, on the other end, the business side of it, it was easy to work with these guys. I didn't have any problem understanding what the steps were going to be. We are actually making a lot of changes as the app continues. The free version is already completed, so that is out there. For the paid version, they keep doing whatever we tell them, too, which sometimes I feel we're giving them too much work, but we just want to make sure everything goes as perfect as possible. Because of that, our design has changed so much from where it started. The paid version is going to change a lot more than the free version, so I would say another three to six months, we should be completing that as well.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they've done for you?

We have spent close to $50,000 already for the design of the app. I think it's going to be another $50,000 more, so probably a $100,000 project with the website and everything.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the results of the project?

Yes. I am very satisfied. If I had to give them a score, I'd give them 9-1/2 out of 10. They've done a good job. Most of the guys are very patient because we've done a lot of changes on the design from the initial stage. We had made the whole page and everything was agreed upon, and then we changed it, so it was just that these guys were cooperative with us. I don't recall any problems that I had. Of course, when you're developing something from scratch, and it's never been built before, it takes time and patience and these guys were amazing with us. There was a lot of conversation back and forth and, eventually, it comes out good.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

No stats or metrics yet to share.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

The only unique part of them from all the companies that I've worked with in the past is that they were very patient with us. They calmly handled the whole project and the price wasn't high compared to other companies charging us a great number of dollars. This was a very decent deal that we got.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

It's been a while since we worked with them so nothing that I recall.

Recommendations

The client is very satisfied with the work delivered by Appy Pie. They have wonderful responsiveness and provide a great platform at a low price. The only complaint is that the app has some bugs. Appy Pie is highly recommended to others.

**Due to a change in scoring methodology, the scores in the Support, Features, and Ease of Use fields have been averaged to represent the client's overall experience because these questions were not posed at the time of the interview. BACKGROUND

Please describe your company.

My company hosts three online radio stations that broadcast Christian music.

What is your role and responsibilities, please?

I am the executive editor of the website responsible for publishing content and running the company.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

What was your goal for working with Appy Pie?

We wanted to build a mobile companion app so that people could listen to the stations on their phones. We wanted to get more listeners, engage people, and provide another way to access our stations.

SOLUTION

Please describe the scope of their work.

Mostly, I used their platform and they were helpful in terms of troubleshooting; there were some bugs. I would tell them there was a bug and they would fix it.

It was pretty neat in that regard. There's still a couple more bugs to work out but, for the most part, they answered a lot of questions, helped with the submission process to Google Play and, hopefully, we'll hear any day from iTunes. They've been very responsive.

What was your process for selecting Appy Pie with which to work?

I just searched for online WYSIWYG-type app builders online. I found a few, but theirs was the one that had the best quality for the price and, as far as cross-platform and dealing with what was most important, our ShoutCast servers. We broadcast our online radio through those servers. With Appy Pie's platform, everything is already built in, so we wouldn't have to develop anything extra for the backend. Tying seamlessly to ShoutCast was our real selling point.

Can you provide a ballpark dollar figure for the size of the work that they've done for you?

It was far less than $10,000.

FEEDBACK & RESULTS

What were the results of the project?

It's always going to be ongoing because we update elements of the app weekly. We do an album preview, which is one of the sections that we have on the app in addition to our radio station and that updates weekly. There's some things like the play list songs and title and artist aren't really showing up, so we've got to work through that with Appy Pie and then make sure we're live on the iTunes app store. But, by and large, the development work is done. Especially for the price, we have a functional and strong app. We like the app's design but have had some feedback that the signal drops occasionally. We're pleased with the functionality and, of course, the financial costs.

Do you have any statistics or metrics to track improvement from the project?

It's so new that we can't track metrics yet. We're a week and a half out. I think we've had something like 200 downloads. They have great analytics built into their platform, which is awesome.

Is there anything unique about them that really makes them stand out, compared to other companies?

Just their responsiveness is amazing. I've dealt with other app builders before and they are not nearly as responsive and pretty much you're on your own as a customer. It's great to have something that's supposed to be plug and play still have a really great level of responsiveness from the company itself.

Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or something that you might do differently?

Aside from fixing some of these bugs, not really anything major to note.
